Brief History

Eckart LLC, formerly Eckart Supply Company was incorporated in the state of Indiana to sell plumbing, heating, and electrical supplies in January 1962. The founder, Everett R. Eckart, had been a successful appliance retailer and electrical, plumbing and HVAC contractor in Corydon, Indiana since 1945. He, along with his wife, Madalyn, and three previous employees, began the “Wholesale Only” business in downtown Corydon. His first customers included many of his former contractor employees who began their own businesses. As past employees, many of them relied upon their “old Boss” to help them in business matters, as well as product information and service problems.

In 1979, Eckart Supply moved to its present Corydon facility. This was accomplished with financing from a Harrison County industrial bond issue. The structure is now 96,000 square feet, after a recent expansion, and is located on five acres of land in the Industrial Park in Corydon Indiana. The building contains warehouse space, offices, a counter sales area, and a modern lighting and bath showroom.

Eckart expanded into the Louisville, Kentucky market in 1986 and purchased River City Lighting from Thomas Industries in 1987. This is our present facility located on LaGrange Road near Oxmoor Shopping Center in the East End of Louisville.

Employee growth and experience are important at Eckart. There are 42 employees with a total of over 750 years experience at Eckart.

Today, Eckart is known as a major electrical, plumbing, lighting and HVAC distributor in the Indiana & Kentucky markets. Eckart has been a major supplier for projects including the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cardinal Stadium, Churchill Downs, Papa John’s and Louisville Slugger stadiums in Louisville as well as the Louisville Convention Center. Other significant projects include Caesar’s Riverboat Casino and Hotel, Fayette County Courthouse and the Lexington Federal Correctional Medical Facility as well as wastewater treatment plants and housing projects in both Indiana and Kentucky.
